NYU today announced that applications for the Class of 2029, who will enter as first-year students next fall, exceeded 120,000 for the first time—a new record. The total represents a 3% increase over last year’s pool of applications and is believed to be the highest number of applications received by any private US university.
Approximately 6,500 accepted candidates for admission will enter next fall as first-year students at NYU’s campuses in New York, Abu Dhabi, and Shanghai.
Over the past 10 years, applications to NYU have more than doubled. Among the 120,633 applications received this year were approximately 25,000 Early Decision (ED) applications, an increase of approximately 10% over last year.
“It is exciting and humbling to have so many wonderful, talented students apply to NYU from all over the US and the world, and particularly to have such a large increase in applicants for whom NYU is their first choice,’’ says MJ Knoll-Finn, NYU’s senior vice president of enrollment management & student success.
“NYU’s global presence, our wide range of academic offerings, our commitment to excellence and rigor, and our efforts at affordability are drawing applicants who want to come to NYU and build bridges to other students from across the US and around the world.”
Applicants for the Class of 2029 at NYU’s New York campus with financial need are eligible for The NYU Promise, which was first announced at President Linda G. Mills’ inauguration:
- Families with incomes of less than $100,000 will not have to pay tuition
- NYU will meet 100% of demonstrated need
- Scholarships will be adjusted to meet tuition increases each year
